Got Oily Skin? Here’s What to Do Before Semi-Permanent Makeup

Oily skin might give you that mid-day shine, but when it comes to semi-permanent makeup, it can also make things tricky.

At The Brow & Beauty Boutique, we’ve worked with hundreds of clients with oily skin—and the good news is, you can absolutely get beautiful brows, lips, and eyeliner. You just need the right prep (and the right artist).

Why Oily Skin Needs Extra Prep

Here’s what we often see:

  • Faster pigment fade—oil pushes pigment out more quickly

  • Colour shifts—especially if the skin is unbalanced

  • Longer healing—oily skin can take longer to settle

  • More touch-ups—because pigment doesn’t “hold” as well

But don’t worry—we’ve got solutions.

What to Do Before Your Appointment

1. Start with Gentle Skin Balancing

Don’t strip your skin with harsh products. You want to balance oil—not trigger more of it.

Start using a lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturizer and gentle cleanser at least 1 week before your appointment.

2. Book a Skin Prep Facial

We strongly recommend clients with oily skin book a La Dermalogique facial 5–7 days before their SPMU session. These are our favourites:

A clearer, calmer canvas = better results.

What to Expect After Your Appointment

You may need:

  • A longer healing period

  • A second touch-up sooner than average

  • To follow our aftercare steps closely (we’ll guide you!)

We also use organic German pigments that are known for fading beautifully on oily skin—so even if colour lightens, it won’t turn weird or patchy.
